As a trainee in Underwriting Assurance, you will have access to professional skills development, productivity courses, and more. Primarily responsible for learning underwriting principles and standards in the CNA Assurance branch office. Analyzes, evaluates and refers new and existing business to the highest level guarantor within the branch office. During the program period, our curriculum provides:
Review bond applications and financial documents to determine if the applicant represents an acceptable risk in accordance with the company’s guidelines and standards. Identifies the need for additional evidence of an appropriate financial position and strategy.
Instructor-led training, testing, self-study courses, web-based training, and practical application with mentoring through a formal mentoring program.
Recommend risks after full analysis and consideration of applicant documents, business factors and competitive situations.
Prepare written communications regarding adverse underwriting decisions, price appeals, underwriting requirements, status, and deviations.
· May help market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community. Develops and maintains positive agency and/or broker relationships to ensure positive outcomes. May travel approximately 1 to 1 day per week to agent locations to shade more senior underwriters for business prospecting
Performs other essential duties as assigned. A range of training sessions either in the field or in our downtown Chicago office where there will be a unique opportunity to interact with senior leadership.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Strong desire to develop knowledge and understanding of underwriting practices, policies and guidelines. Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop positive working relationships.
Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn quickly and adapt quickly to change.
· Ability to work independently.
Develop decision-making skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite as well as other business related software.
Education and experience:
BA/BA in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar programme. Minor in Marketing or Communication Studies is a plus.
A minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in a related field (finance, credit and insurance) is preferred. Training experience may be eligible.
Must possess excellent communication and analysis skills.
